The History of Carl’s Jr.
It all began with a hot dog cart and a dream with faith. On July 17, 1941, Carl & Margaret Karcher borrowed $311 against their Plymouth automobile, and added $15 dollars of their own money, to purchase their first hot dog cart at the busy intersection of Florence & Central in Los Angeles, CA. They offered only ten-cent tamales, chili dogs and hot dogs, as well as soda pop, for a nickel. Their first day sales were $14.75. That was the beginning … of what would eventually become … Carl’s Jr. Restaurants.
